BICITRAVESIAS BIOMETROPOLIS BIKE ROUTE, A UNIQUE EXPERIENCE
Within the schedule of events of the “Bike Week (September 22-30)”, the Bogota Mayor’s Office and the Administrative Region of Special Planning –(RAPE Central Region), announces the official launch, on Saturday, September 22, of the Biometropolis Route, which will depart from the kilometer 17th on the road that leads from Bogotá to the village of Choachí, in the department of Cundinamarca.
This mountain bike trail, not only offers great local projection but also international, considering its privilegedtopography and the beauty of the landscape. It is part of the Regional Network of Tourist Routes of the ambitious “Proyecto Biciregión” (Regional Bike Project), leaded and supported by the RAPE Central Region, and also by the www.bicitravesiasbogota.gov.co project from the Mayor's Office where visitors can find several options for bike touring in Bogotá and the region.
This attractive route starts in the surroundings of the Cruz Verde Paramo (moorland), continues through the eastern hills of Bogotá, and offers the cyclist an opportunity to appreciate and explore the origin of the ecosystem services that the capital city consumes daily: a splendid delight for fans of photography or video.
The Biometropolis Route has a length of 31 km (19.3 mi), and during the journey you may enjoy natural wonders such as the San Rafael Reservoir, the Frailejón Valley, the Pine and Cypress Forest, the Teusacá River, among other tourist spots, pride of the region.
The route complies with the official international standards for proper and safe mountain biking practices, which were adopted by the French Cycling Federation and the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA).
