BOGOTA JOINS UNWTO IN WORLD TOURISM DAY CELEBRATION
Bogotá, September 19th 2017. Following United Nations World Tourism Organization message: “Sustainable Tourism as Tool of Development”, Bogotá is aimed at sustainability. Thus, the city gets ready to celebrate, this coming September 27th, World Tourism Day, with a Bike Tour around Downtown and which seeks to stimulate bike riding as an alternative transportation and improving heath, mobility, money saving, harmony and the air we breathe.
The District Tourism Institute-IDT invites stakeholders and associates to the tourist sector, to join us in this Bike Route. The meeting point will be Plaza del Chorro de Quevedo (Calle 12b K2) at 2:00pm; we will stop in different emblematic places in Downtown Bogota, such as: Calle 10, Plaza de Bolívar, Parque de los Periodistas, Quisoco de la Luz, National Museum, Tequendama Hotel and Bicentenario Park, where Bogota big Brand is located.
From Mayor´s Office, led by Enrique Peñalosa, Bogota wants to become a reference in Bike Riding and sustainability worldwide. All this regarding that the city has the longest bike path network in Latin America (476Km) and that in the past years, the number of travels by bike increased significantly. From 2015 to 2016 bike users grew in a 30%.
To the question of UNWTO Secretary General, Taleb Rfail, about “How can we enable tourism, this powerful global transformative force, to contribute to make this world a better place? Bogotá answers with this Bike Tour, inviting those who work for tourism to recognize all our city big efforts for being a referent point in sustainability matters.
Get on your bike and let´s ride though a more sustainable Bogota. If you decide to join us and you´ve got a bike, please bring it; if you don´t, we´ve got 40 bikes to borrow.
